At Tiger Mama Intimates, we do our utmost best to produce the highest quality bras and briefs for expectant and nursing mums. One of our key philosophies is to only use OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified fabrics.
Why do we use OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified fabrics over organic fabric? Let’s look at each of these certifications:
What is OEKO-TEX® CERTIFICATION?
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system that ensures that harmful chemicals, both illegal and legal, were not used during the entire manufacturing process including yarn production. Harmful chemicals include allergenic and carcinogenic dyes, formaldehyde and chemicals that contain heavy metals.
OEKO-TEX® is a globally recognised certification. This means is that the same rigorous and voluntary certification process is the same for every country and that it doesn’t matter which country you buy an OEKO-TEX® fabric, you know that it has met the same strict certification requirements.
What is Organic Certification?
In general, organic certification for fabric means that the raw materials used to make the fabrics are grown under stringent guidelines. They are grown without the use of petroleum-based fertilisers, pesticides and synthetic additives.
What is the difference?
The two certifications are very different. Basically, organic certification is about how the raw material for the fabric is grown. OEKO-TEX® is about how that fabric is processed and produced.
OEKO-TEX® fabric does not necessarily mean that it is organic. Similarly, organic fabric may have been produced or processed using harmful chemicals. In other words, organic fabric might not meet the strict OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification.
Why Does Tiger Mama Intimates prefer OEKO-TEX®?
At Tiger Mama Intimates, we believe that OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 fabric is safer and far more superior.
OEKO-TEX® certification ensures that the finished textiles are free from the certification’s list of banned and unbanned substances that are believed to be harmful to humans. Organic does not mean that the finished fabrics are free from the chemicals that OEKO-TEX® tests for.
From a design and quality point of view, the range and quality of OEKO-TEX® fabrics is better and far more premium than the organic range. You can see from our products that the quality of our Sateen, Lace, Mesh and Cotton surpasses the fabrics commonly used in the industry. It is both visually superior and safer for you and your baby.
When you breastfeed your baby with a maternity bra on, your baby’s face and head touches the bra cup that you pulled down. For newborn babies, this may mean up to 12 times a day and for about half an hour each feeding time (Source: Australian Breastfeeding Association). That’s the number of times your baby’s sensitive new skin comes into contact with your bra.
Therefore, when you wear Tiger Mama Intimates, you can be confident that our products have been designed and produced with you and your baby’s safety in mind. We only use OEKO-TEX® fabrics in our lingerie.
